History

Generations

Generations Heath Association, Inc. (GHA) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization divided into the following strategic business units:

Generations Mental Health Centers (Tennessee)

Generations of Middlesboro (Kentucky)

Generations of Spencer (Tennessee)

Other corporate entities under the Generations umbrella are:

Generations Gaither’s, Inc., Tennessee S – Corporation

Generations was founded in 1992 by David and Pat Gaither and had as its’ primary business focus providing housing and assisted living for the elderly. The original Generations’ facility was Beech Tree Manor, a 110-bed nursing home facility in Jellico, TN (Generations sold this facility in 2006). In 1994 Generations acquired the Middlesboro facility, and in 1997 Generations of Spencer opened. Generations opened Gaither’s Suite at West Park (Paducah, KY) in 2006.

In 1998 the decision was made to branch out into providing housing for persons with mental illness. Gaither’s, Inc. (which left the Generations umbrella in 2016) and Generations Gaither’s, Inc. were established as for-profit corporate entities which originally contracted out for ancillary mental health services to support their houses. As time went by, the decision was made to provide mental health services within the company’s non-profit branch (GHA). Generations Mental Health Center of Morrison was established and began operations in July 2002.

As Generations expanded capacity to meet the housing needs of persons with mental illness, the needs for ancillary mental health services grew proportionately. The Generations Mental Health Center of Cookeville began operations in November 2008, followed by Tullahoma in January 2009 (closed 2015). Later that year Generations expanded into West TN with the establishment of the Generations Mental Health Center of Martin in July 2009. The Germantown Mental Health Center followed in the West in 2010 (closed 2016), with McKenzie Mental Health Center being added in 2014. Generations opened its first Mental Health Center in East TN at Dayton in late 2013.

Currently GHA operates, or contracts for over 500 beds to serve people with severe and persistent mental illness and / or personal care needs. These beds comprise four different milieus:

Supported Housing for the mentally ill (158 beds)

Enhanced Supported Housing for the mentally ill (136 beds)

Adult Residential Treatment for the mentally ill (66 beds)

Skilled Nursing / Personal Care / Assisted Living (177 beds)
